Announcement: Change of venue for F.A.C.C 4th Annual Conference

April 4th, 2007

Dear members of Aweil Community,

The office of the Federation of Aweil Communities in Canada (F.A.C.C) wishes to inform the general public that the venue for the F.A.C.C 4th Annual Conference has been changed from Edmonton to Calgary , Alberta . This last minute change of venue was necessitated by lack of venue in the City of Edmonton .

We truly apologize for the inconvenience this will cause many of you, especially those who have already booked their flights to Edmonton. Please make arrangements to divert your flight to Calgary or if that becomes difficult, you may as well proceed to Edmonton City. But in such a case, contact us as soon as possible so that we make arrangements on how to transport you from Edmonton to Calgary. We will advise members of Aweil community in Edmonton to help in this regard. Otherwise, the conference is still taking place on June 30th through July 1st, 2007. All are invited to attend this important conference.

The agenda of this year’s conference will include, among other things:

§         Elections of the new F.A.C.C office,

§         Reevaluation of the F.A.C.C goals and objectives,

§         ‘Re-strategization’ of the F.A.C.C action plan, and

§         Assessment of overall performance of the F.A.C.C over the past two years.

This conference will provide an ideal opportunity for the Aweil citizens to contribute to the shaping of the future direction of the Federation.

This conference is expected to be recording breaking – it will be the biggest and most successful conference ever held by the F.A.C.C. There are many reasons for this optimism - most important of them: all the obstacles which impeded the progress of the F.A.C.C over the past few years have successfully been addressed; a fact that gives every Aweil citizen a good reason to proactively participate in the events and activities of the Federation including the attendance of this conference.

The conference is expected to be attended by some prominent political figures from Sudan; arrangements are already underway to try to facilitate their coming to Canada. The office of the F.A.C.C has however decided to withhold the names of politicians expected to attend the conference until their travel arrangements are completed. Their names will be announced as soon as their coming to Canada is confirmed.

As alluded to above, this conference is opened to all Aweil citizens regardless of their places of residence. As mentioned in the F.A.C.C’s 2005 conference resolution, integration of the Aweil communities in North America is a shared objective between the F.A.C.C and Aweil Community Association in USA (ACA-USA). In that regard, Aweil citizens in the United States are strongly encouraged to attend this conference as this will represent a closer step toward accomplishing our overall objective: bringing the two communities under one umbrella – a necessary step toward unifying the Aweil Communities in the Diaspora. Official invitation to the ACA-USA office will be sent separately but Aweil citizens in the US are asked to make their individual arrangements to attend this vital conference. Moreover, Aweil citizens in distance places such as Europe, Australia and Africa who are capable of attending are also encouraged to do so.

The conference will take place in the following venue:

Penbrooke Meadows Community Association

100 Penbrooke Drive SE, Calgary Alberta
