F.A.C.C 4th Annual Conference's Resolution, August 23rd, 2007

The office of the Federation of Aweil Communities in Canada (F.A.C.C) would first and foremost like to apologize to its members and the entire public for taking so long without releasing the conference’s resolution. The F.A.C.C office was engaged on other pressing issues which took a considerable amount of time thereby delaying the release of the conference’s resolution.

With above said, we, the F.A.C.C executive team, would like to sincerely thank the leadership of the Aweil Union Society of Alberta (AUSA), and entire Aweil people in Alberta for their dedication and willingness to host a successful F.A.C.C 4th annual conference. We are quite grateful to Aweil people in Alberta for demonstrating what F.A.C.C has long been aspiring to accomplish: unity of thought and purpose among Aweil people. The spirit demonstrated by the Aweil people in Alberta is worthy of every bit of appreciation. F.A.C.C encourages Aweil people in Alberta to continue demonstrating similar spirit.

We would also like to extend our sincere thank you to all Aweil citizens who traveled long distances in order to attend the F.A.C.C 4th annual conference. In this busy society, it takes someone a lot of commitment to postpone his/her demanding tasks and embarks on a costly trip to attend a community conference similar to that of the F.A.C.C. The commitment which Aweil citizens across Canada manifested in the last four years deserves our greatest admiration. For lack of better words, F.A.C.C says thank you to all Aweil people wherever they may be in Canada for your unreserved commitment to the unity of Aweil people embodied by the F.A.C.C.

We too wish to thank the two-time F.A.C.C president, Molana Akuein Achuil Alor and his team for their outstanding leadership. Under the leadership of Molana Akuein Achuil, the F.A.C.C was transformed into a successful and effective organization which every Aweil citizen is proud to identity with. F.A.C.C office and indeed, the entire Aweil people are thankful to Molana Akuein and his team for guiding the organization to where it is today. Aweil people will always remember Molana Akuein and his team for their diligent and successful efforts to unite our people under the banner of the F.A.C.C.

On equal note, we wish to register our special gratitude to Hon. Aldo Ajou Deng Akuey and Sen. Simon Mawein Uguek for traveling all the way from Sudan to attend the F.A.C.C conference. Hon. Aldo Ajou and Sen. Simon Mawein have shown what it means to love your land and people. Traveling such vast distance is not only inconvenience for busy people like them, but it is also costly. Yet the two leaders did not hesitate to attend the conference. F.A.C.C can’t find better words to thank Hon. Aldo Ajou and Sen. Simon Mawein enough.

We would also like to thank Hon. Aldo Ajou Deng for accepting F.A.C.C members’ call to rejoin the SPLM Party. We were much honored to have a key political figure like Hon. Aldo Ajou announcing such a long awaited decision in our conference. Thank you very much Hon. Aldo Ajou for according us such honor, we will stand side by side with you as we promised you during the conference, in our collective quest for better future for our great state and nation

Like the previous years, the conferees at the 2007 F.A.C.C conference reaffirmed their commitment to the unity of Aweil people as well as Southern Sudanese. It was resolved that our numerous problems would not be effectively addressed unless we are united in thought and action and so, Aweil citizens who participated in the conference had one message: unity of Aweil people and southerners should always take precedence over our differing views and perspectives. Our collective efforts, it was agreed, is what we need to be able to overcome many challenges facing our state and nation in the post-war environment.

Furthermore, it was also reaffirmed that the new office of the F.A.C.C would continue with the task of integrating Aweil communities in the Diaspora which the former F.A.C.C office had initiated. Since 2005, F.A.C.C has been working very hard to bring all Aweil communities in the Diaspora under one umbrella. This vision was partially realized when Aweil community in the United States and the F.A.C.C agreed to collaboratively work on various matters. This collaborative effort between the F.A.C.C and Aweil Community in USA will be strengthened as well as extended to other Aweil communities including those in Australia and Europe by the current F.A.C.C office.

Following the conference, The F.A.C.C Executive team conducted series of meetings focusing on how it would effectively contribute toward the ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction program in the state. In this regard, the F.A.C.C office resolved to appoint one representative in each of the three key cities in Sudan vis-à-vis Khartoum, Juba and Aweil. The following people have been appointed to represent and carry out F.A.C.C activities in their respective places of resident:

  1. Mr. Oliver Majok Aleu ……………….Khartoum
  2. Mr. Dut Aleu …………………………Juba
  3. Mr. Majok Gop Kuach ……………….Aweil

The F.A.C.C office also resolved to pursue the following short, medium and long term goals:

Short term:

  • Amendment of F.A.C.C constitution
  • Registration of Aweil citizens in Canada
  • Conducting fundraising activities
  • Completion of F.A.C.C registration federally
  • Seeking funding from various sources
  • Commissioned a task force to recommend income generating activities in Canada and Sudan
  • Identify and partner with suitable NGOs in Canada and Sudan

Midterm

  • Appointment of three coordinators and open offices of coordinators in Sudan
  • Seek funding from various sources
  • Open Aweil Educational Fund Account
  • Sponsor and support Media in Aweil
  • Solicit medicines for use in Aweil

Long Term

  • Build Youth Centre in Aweil
  • Build Schools, Hospitals and communal centers
  • Operate Educational Radio and TV in Aweil
  • Integrate Aweil communities in the Diaspora into one organization
  • Operate Elementary Teachers Training Institute
  • Work tireless on our unity

Finally, we would once again like to thank the F.A.C.C members across Canada for their commitment toward the aspirations of the Aweil people and Southern Sudanese. We encourage them to continue manifesting similar level of commitment. We would also like to encourage Aweil people wherever they may be remain united as they continue with their difficult task of rebuilding our war-torn nation. Our unity, as it was repeatedly articulated in the conference, is the only way to go in these challenging times. We would similarly like to encourage Southern Sudanese both at home and in the Diaspora to put aside their differences and come together in their search for total freedom. The destiny of southern Sudanese, we must emphasis, is and will remain one and the same.

We would like to end this document with a word of wisdom by paraphrasing the words of Dr. Luther King, that “Southerners (Americans) must learn to live together as brothers (and sisters), lest we die together as fools” (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr). Thank you.
