Southern Sudanese Association of British Columbia (SSABC's) election results:

Southern Sudanese Association of BC conducted its highly contested elections yesterday, July 9^th. It was a day all southern Sudanese living in the province of BC have been waiting for. The day began with the out going office of Mr. Paul Degal making a comprehensive report on their past two-year-term in office. The old office paid a particular attention on their successes as well as failures. The outgoing officials did not go without tough questions from the eager voters. The former office's report was followed by speeches from the aspiring candidates. This moment was the highlight of the day. Each candidate was given about five minutes to tell the voters why they (voters) should vote for him/her. Floor was then opened for the voters to shower the candidates with series of questions. All candidates couldn't stop sweating, it was a moment none of them would be prepared to revisit, at least in the near future. The whole process lasted for more than seven and half-hours (12.00-7.30). Amazing of all was the fact that, despite of the exhausting long day, the room remained packed with the voters for the entire process. The whole process gives one this feeling that BC is a hotbed for politics considering the level of political enthusiasm among southerners residing therein. Three strong candidates contested each seat. So winning a seat/post was an uphill-walk. In the end, the results were as follows:

I wish to congratulate all the newly elected officials of SSABC for their successful campaign and resulting victory. I would also like to thank all those who took their time to campaign extremely hard. While they did not win, they have nevertheless sent a strong message to the candidates who won: that there are many people in the waiting who would only be too glad to replace them should they fail to deliver what they promised the voters to accomplish.
